Lots of answers, but always less than the chosen ridge capping coverage.
Hello All,
What is the standard distance down from the ridge to position the first batten?
It's a new gable roof if that makes a difference!
Cheers

Lots of answers, but always less than the chosen ridge capping coverage.
At work we go 20mm down from the apex with a 90 x 45 perlin
Early years when using 75 x 38 green hw was a standard 150mm down from the apex to the bottom of batten. Have since moved to 170mm to suit current flashing sizes.. Basically the size of the capping / flashing then all timber batten up from there. If using top hat steel batten 100 x 40 (I think) I come down 190mm to the bottom lip which puts the body/meat of the batten under the screw zone of the capping / flashing.

I'm using 90 x 35 battens. Would the 170mm to bottom of batten be suffice?
not sure about the distance down but 90 x 35 is way overkill..metal roof battens are the way to go.. so much lighter and easier to use..
I thought 90x45 was the standard these days (other than metal battens) wouldn't 90x35 not meet code??
Good to know. Cheers
