    Default Paint or Replace

I have just bought a house with a colorbond roof

I don't know how old the roof is but I estimate it is 30 years old, But looks in good condition

However we want to change the color

Given the age would we be better replacing the roof or will repainting still be a viable option

The roof is about 16m x 28m with a central peak and a bullnose varandah on one side (28m) in addition to the main roof

What would be the approximate cost to replace

    Thanks in Advance

Welcome. Replacing is always going to be more expensive. I don't know the costs but imagine part of it comes down to how long you plan to stay in that house?

Welcome to the forum ) We (Moondog and I) are in Geelong as well. Where's your house?

Personally, I would be very reluctant to paint Colorbond. I don't know how well new paint would adhere to the pre-painited finish without damaging what's already on the steel. Perhaps learn to live with it, or paint your house/trim to coordinate with what's already there. A roof still in good nick is not worth messing around with.
I am not responsible for anything that Moondog says!

I would suggest talking to a local paint specialist outlet, maybe they can put you in touch with an experienced roof painter for advice and costing..likewise for roof replacement.
Painting an old colorbond roof is not technically any different to a fence or wall cladding(it's the same material).
    Regards,

    Default Paint or Replace

Painting will give you 8-10 years, new will give you a lot longer. If access is easy for you to repaint in ten years then paint it, I've got a 2 storey rental place, putting in new eaves and gutters so doing the whole lot rather than repainting

I'd be talking to BHP about it. Call the technical helpline for colorbond and see what they say. I HOPE they don't say sand it back first

    Thanks for your replies

Depending on cost I would prefer to replace a ballpark quote to have someone clean and paint it was $3,500, but we can't get a estimate to replace until we take possession which is driving me crazy

Cecile we will be in little river
