Why not just have the brick pier supporting the beam.
Hello
I have a structural beam which needs to be supported on 3 x 90 x 45 F17 KD HW studs.
The HW studs are being installed in an outside area, within a 450x450mm brick pier on a galvanised post support. The brick pier will be rendered over.
The hardwood studs will be completely enclosed by the brick pier.
Do the HW studs need to be treated as they're located outside ? I can only find these studs with H3 level treatment, will this suffice?
Why not just have the brick pier supporting the beam.
Thanks for the reply, it's a construction sequencing issue. The brick pier will be built later after the hardwood studs are in place.
I'm thinking provided I place the studs on a gal support, they should be fine. I can also strap the beam down to the brick pier, which will probably render the hardwood studs as obsolete after the pier is built?
Why wasn't it designed for a brick pier support, or was the pier a feature added after plans approval. I would dismiss the timber and core fill the brick pier with a tie down rod, talk with your engineer.
