    Thumbs up User Reputations

User reputations are now up and running. These are a bit of fun and a way for you to show your approval or disapproval of members posts.

You will find a the link at the bottom of a post under the users name. Click on it to approve or disapprove of a users post. This will add or remove a point to their reputation.

A users reputation can be viewed by hovering over the little coloured box next to Posts. Green for good reputation & Blue for not so good.

Each member automatically starts out with 10 points. 1 point is added every 30 days. 1 point is added every 100 posts. 1 point is added for every 100 points earned.

You must have 50 posts before your reputation hits will count on another member.

You must have 10 reputation points before your reputation hits will count on another member.

You can only allocate 10 user points to others in any 24 hour period.

You must give points to 20 other members before you can allocate to the same person a second time.

Each time you click on the Reputation Image you allocate 1 point to that member either as approval or disapproval.

I think that just about covers it all.

    Cheers - Neil

Dumb question time  if you must have 10 points to give points - and we all have one, do we have to wait for 10 months to accumulate enough points befor we can start using this feature?

sorry if I have embarassed myself again

How very 60's. Goes against every thing my Mum used to tell me.... and what if Sturdee is just hanging out for a bit more? What happens in the meantime? I can just see his posts becoming jibbering jellyblobs until the next jab.

I can hardly wait for the first batch of resignations brought about when all those negative points on the board add up, and the numbers of little green squares start to disappear though.

Love your work Neil, even if as a moderator you are a cheating little green square hoarder!!!

Yeah, maybe I have to seek love elsewhere ,recently I had an offer from some yank. Maybe Joe and I can make up.

You did not have to wait too long. The first with a minus score ( blue square) was Ken, who has already told us that he left.

I can see a time in the future where there will be a proliferation of the creation of alliances due to the reputaion point ala "survivor..."

I note also that there is an "add comments" field one can write little wittisizms when spreading your love points... how can (if at all) a user see what comments someone has given them when distributing points ????

Go to user CP all will be reveled.
I think it's funny, you could like you say, all get together and take off points from some one.
If you take the points seriously it will keep you on your toes.
If you dont, its just a laugh.

I'm not going to get all hung up on this but in the interests of learning to be a better person, can anyone explain why someone would have disapproved of this: http://www.woodworkforums.ubeaut.com...8854#post58854

Beats me Darren, I thought your advice was correct and answered the question.

May be when a negative vote is cast the member's name should be disclosed and a reason given why they disapprove.

I think everybody is ganging up on me already. I got three negatives on the same day for my reply to http://www.woodworkforums.ubeaut.com...9149#post59149Damn. Who was it that was offering to sell their reputation points?

Neil, is it possible to set up a bartering system so that people who get too many points can swap them with people who are desparately needy of a better rep?

Thanks to Neil and company for making the board as free as it is. It is quite a nice mixture of woodwork and non-woodwork. I thoroughly enjoy everything I see and do here. I might even sell Bob some Browny points.... Nah, just kidding.

I just looked at my points and somebody disapproved of this post:
(Sadly this link doesn't work so please refer to Sturdee's post #25 on the previous page!!)
Sturdee, isn't it obvious? Joe the Seppo is back!!!

You must spread some Reputation around before giving it to Sturdee again.
Sorry, I tried to fix the problem....

Sorry, obviously a glitch in the works, I don't seem to be able to cut and paste the link: I was referring to Sturdees post #25 on the previous page, so you can to get it from there.

    Thumbs down DISAPPROVAL REPUTATION NAZI’s

User reputations are meant to be a bit of fun and a way for you to show your approval or disapproval of member’s posts.

However some members have taken to disapprove of normal and sensible posts, not only of myself but also of other members on the board. I can understand it if a post is risqué or in bad taste or criticizes someone or is starting a flaming war. But these posts were none of that.

In the past if a specific post upset you, you raised it either publicly by posting or privately by pm and if there was no resolution you could involve the People Whose Reputation Is Beyond Repute (or Board Gods, Demi gods and other High Officebearers ).

Now anyone can hide behind the screen of anonymity and become what I will refer to as DISAPPROVAL REPUTATION NAZI’s  or DRN  for short. In casting their disapproval these DRN  remain faceless and don’t have to give any reasons.

This is IMHO unacceptable and can lead to people refusing to post rather than face disapproval from these DRN  .

What started out as a fun thing is being distorted by the DRN  and if this feature continues then the DRN  of this world should be made to disclose their identity when casting their vote.

No doubt this post will earn me the wrath of all the DRN  and reduce my reputation accordingly.

For myself I don't care , as I know my own reputation, but I am concerned that this may go the same way as the now put to bed issue of the Spelling Checkers. Others may get upset and start a trail of " I Quit" posts.

Now in the midst of all this frivolity I take your point... gutless (Bugger there goes another blue square-five today!!!!) DRN's  will cause the same sort of grief.

So for me: positives will be anon. Negatives will say why.

Have you looked under the bed?

Maybe a red one is really rare, like a blue Smartie, and the honour of just having one for a day is worth 20 points?

Red Smarties are my favourites anyway.

Ok, so call me stupid, but how do you guys know someone has given you a rep point - good or bad? I can't see anything on anyones usercp or my own that leads to rep info...

Ok, you can stop calling me stupid now!

    G'day.

Nothing shows up in your usercp until you give or receive a rep point.
