Default Advice please - Replacing a sliding door with a Bifold door

    Hi,
I posted this on the windows thread, but no one has replied.
Iíve bought a bifold door that turned out to be top-hung, instead of bottom-rollered (donít ask!) It is for an existing opening (2.4m wide x 2.1 high), where a sliding door was previously. Will the existing lintel be enough to support the weight of the door? (Approx 220kg- double-glazed aluminium)
The current lintel is F17, 190mm x 70mm pine, and is fairly substantial in order to support the roof load above (single story home)
The wall is brick-veneered, load-bearing, tiled roof (currently holding up 4 trusses).
Ive been told adding a single glazed door to this beam would have minimal impact (they are approx 110kg), but the double glazing doubles this weight.
    Appreciate your response

    Thanks

Instead of where you have it under Landscaping, let's move it here to Structural.

Usual for a top hung is steel. It’s not just about structural, it’s about deflection because lots of top hung won’t cope with only a few of mm deflection and start jamming.

if it’s hard to remove and replace, an acceptable option might be to strip either the gyprock or the cladding and get some 5mm plate cut to the same size as the current lintel, then tek screw every 200mm with offset top and bottom for the length

Thanks for the advice. Do you think adding the steel with the weight of the doors, may be too much?
