    Default Planning Permission to build over attached room/garage

    Hi, I'm viewing houses at the moment and I've seen one with a side attached single storey room which is the kitchen. Would I need planning permission to build above this? It is about 2.5 metres from the side boundary. The other houses in the road have the same side rooms and I have not seen any that have been built over. I have a feeling that the rooms were originally quite roomy brick built stores.
