    Default Swap window for door

    G'day all,

Got a window in the corner of the entry foyer - swmbo would like me to get the window removed and a door installed (with steps to the other side of the front garden). I measured it - looks like a standard door will fit plus enough for door jamb and trim. Figure the presence of a door will be no worse than a window re weight bearing, but are there any restrictions I should know about re putting an external door in a wall?

    Cheers,
    Adam

you should be bale to replace it without any hassles at all ..... all load is vertical and above the window and provided you don't mess with that part of it, you can remove everything below and install a doorway. having said all this, I hasten to add that no one in the forum should be relied upon for advice - just opinion

I agree with Steve, no problems if you donít make it wider. Itís done all the time. Up to you to check compliance issues.
Funny thing though, if we go the other way, replace a door with a window, then we get fixing issues, glazing and water penetration certification.
Doors donít at this stage donít seem to get the same attention as windows do.
    Cheers
    Bill.

I know I am stating the obvious, but check for plumbing and electrical in the area before you start!
