We're removing a load bearing wall and putting a 330 x 110 Glulam beam in it's place (specified by our engineer). Because the beam is going to hang quite low 330mm I'm considering removing the top plate to gain back a 3-5cm - which isn't a great deal but it might make enough difference to keep the room looking open (which is the plan).
I hoping someone might be able to provide some advice about removing the top plate which I don't really see an issue with, however, most of the wall removal procedures I've seen leave it in place - which would be easier.
Any help would be appreciated.
