Default want to build a granny flat, what do councils needt o see?

i want to build a granny flat 6m x 6m in my back yard with a small bathroom with a toilet and sink only.
want to make the frame out of wood with cement slab floor and iron roof.
what sort of things would the council need to see and how detailed in order to approve such a development? and do they inspect when finished? or in stages or not at all?

They will want a full set of building plans as well as site plan and a drainage plan as they do for anything residential (by 'granny' or otherwise). Even for a granny flat you will most likely need to formally notify neighbours (including all adjacent even back fence). Most councils nowadays gave fact sheets and lots of other relevant stuff on their web sites that will give you the info you need for your specific location so that would be my first stop. If the web site doesn't you can be sure the council shop front will have hard copy material.

Thank you so much for your response, gosford council website makes it all seem so hard, almost imposible for a individual to do it for themselves... a drafsman wants $1000 for drawings but will also submit to council - wondering if its worth it?

If the $1000 include the building submission fees then, trust me, it is well worth it in saving you a lot of headaches.
