Default Irrigation Clamps - Cobra clips vs just plastic poly ratchet clamps

I will be installing a system with 13mm dripline off a bore, many part of the line will then be buried under gravel or mulch etc, I dont want issues with the standard plastic poly ratchet clamps coming off.

I found this product below, does anyone have any experience with them

The boss has a truffle farm and uses the Cobras exclusively, the poly ones in the sun/heat are not up to the job... I recently borrowed his pliers, they're special and expensive, and he gave me a dozen or so clips after mine all gave up one after the other...

I'd go the Cobras any day...I reckon you could possibly get by without the pliers if you can develop a knack...
    And.....your point is.....what exactly?

My poly ratchet clamps would not be in the sun, some hold on the black poly tube as it progresses from a 25mm pVC pipe to a screw in 13m adaptor - that is about 20cm down. Buts is a bore system so Id hate for a leak to occur and not know about it given its buried.

The other clamp areas are higher up but still under either gravel or mulch or sand about 6cm under.

I guess that given some are underground it's more important not to have a leak as it could be a while before discovery...I did forget to mention some of my failed ones were just below the surface of the lawn...

Hi David thanks for the feedback, your failed ones were the plastic ones?

On another note, I now have the following sizing issue

Total Eden recommends the Cobra 16/8 Green - 16.5-18mm
    Reece Cobra 15/8 White - 15.5-17mm
    Another store Cobra 14/8 Purple - 14.5-16mm

all as theyre recommended size for 13mm poly pipe. The specific pipe I have is Total Edens Netafim Boreline product and I placed a spigot into this pipe and placed a vernier guage over it as per the normagroup link above , it came in at 17.7mm. The cobra clamp appears tight and based on a OD of 17.7m the other two options would be too tight and crush the plastic spigot wouldnt they?

I might go past Reece and test out the smaller size to see what happens. Any opinions on sizing?

Nope, lost me now. I've never much analysed too much, just used the size that works. The ones I used were onto the standard 13mm poly pipe, though. From what you're saying the Cobra Green is right in the middle...
    And.....your point is.....what exactly?

Cobra clamps are brilliant but I use old school nail knips instead of the fancy tool. They need to be tight...

Never used the small stuff as I've found 13 mm poly too small for anything other than short run back yard irrigation...just a few metres at a time. 25 mm for us.

Ours is not to reason why. Merely to point and giggle.
