    Default Cleaning windows

Not really a reno question, but now that summer's on the way, I can see how filthy some of our windows really are. Before I get stuck in on the weekend, I wonder if anyone has any tips - as I usually end up cleaning the windows several times inside and out and still end up unhappy with the streaks and spots .

What do the pros use that they can get them so clean so fast, first time ?

    Cheers,
    Tone

Not a pro, but I use a bit of meths in the water. First wash - detergent and water. Then wipe over with clean water with meths in it, and rub off with newspaper. Works every time.

I use the waterless car wash spray cans. Best clean ever for glass and helps prevent dirt coming back. Came across it by accident with some dodgy looking guy selling the stuff at a servo one day.

IMO, it's the squeegee they use that makes all the difference. we have one the same as the window cleaners use that we bought from a cleaning supply place and you wouldn't believe how easy it is to do the windows. You just give them a good scrub with soapy water and then squeegee it off, no turps or windex, just the squeegee and a rag to wipe the squeegee dry on and a quick wipe with the rag around the edges.

For outside windows - a soft broom dipped in a bucket of soapy water (it's fast, cleans and de-cobwebs at the same time) rinse off with a garden hose. Long handled rubber bladed window thingy gets rid of the drips leaving a streak free finish!

Inside windows - spray any window cleaner (most have meths in them anyway) using soft cloths working from the top - then sides using a figure-of-eight pattern to the bottom.

Sliding window grooves can be quickly cleaned with a few drops of eucalyptus oil in a jugful of s soapy water - an old narrow type wash-up brush, chux to wipe out the grime - smells good too!

Also works for me but I am able to rinse off with rainwater fed through a Karcher - at a distance. Streaking is rarely a problem.

Thanks eveyone for all the suggestions - will give some or all a try on the weekend and take some before and after photos.
