Why not change the pantry door? Maybe to a bifold. Or reverse the swing of one of the doors?
our kitchen door opens inward and folds back across the pantry. the kids keep opening the pantry door and smashing it into the back of the kitchen door. anybody know whether you can get external cavity sliding doors that would still be secure?

Thanks for the suggestion, joynz. changing the pantry door around won't solve the problem as the pantries are tucked in behind the kitchen door.
We foresaw a similar issue when designing our extension and so the kitchen door was made to swing outwards into a small courtyard (door is really only used occasionally e.g. to access the bins ) and then I never did get around to installing the pantry door! hahaha![]()
Exterior door swinging outwards would be the solution I'd choose - it's more secure to forced entry as well. The other option is to install a sliding glass door if you have the space
