Default Where to find salvaged period windows?

I'm looking around for a period window to fit into my reno, I like the sort of lead-light window below but I'm struggling to find one. I'm in Melbourne and have tried Steptoes but they are really unhelpful. Can anyone point me to other good dealers?

Believe it or not, they seem to come up on ebay fairly frequently. Definitely worth checking out before bidding though, IMO. Also, gumtree might be worth looking at, too.

Definitely try A&R Recycling, 1485 Sydney Road Campbellfield, it's one of their specialties.

I've bought a crap load of stuff from Hughes in Huntingdale over the years. It's harder to get this stuff nowadays as it's very labour intensive salvaging as opposed to demolishing.

Just a comment/warning here, we need to be careful of secondhand windows as they are required to comply with AS 1288 - 1989 Glazing Code.

I've just had a situation where I was asked for certification that secondhand windows I used complied with AS, it can be a costly exercise to have them certified and if necessary re-glazed to meet the standard.

Whoa!!! Does that mean strictly the glass needs to comply with that code? My dad indulges in making lead-light windows as a hobby and he offered to make the lead-lights to fit any frame I buy. Does he need to buy that standards glass or something then make up the lead-light with it or are lead-lights now deemed completely unacceptable by our nanny state?

I don't know what is required with lead lighting, but for normal windows it has to be a specific thickness and or type of glass.

Might pay to check it out if you have to get a certificate of occupancy signed off at the end of the deal.
