    Default Treated Pine Screws

    Hi,

Just wondering out of curiosity what the coating is on "treated pine"-labelled screws?

I ended up just buying gal screws as the shop had them in a more appropriate size but now I'm wondering, what is it? some kind of painted coating? Gal would probably be more durable if slightly dearer?

Gal prolly reacts with the chrome and arsenic in the timber and promoting rust.

I thought that the ones that I have used were just well galvanized - that is what they appeared to be anyway.

Generally treated pine screws are just Class 3 (mech galvanised) screws. The 'Treated Pine' is just a sales label

One exception are the screws specifically designed for ACQ treated pine which have an extra coating for the extra copper in the ACQ treatment. (ACQ has 5 times the copper of CCA)
