    Luckily my vent registers are plastic, so I don't think I'll run into any issues with sound resonating.

    I think that's pretty much my Option 2. Remove and seal up the ductwork leading to the room, and block up the existing vent register.

    Thanks for your response. I am concerned that the sound from a closed vent may pose an issue as you said. As for removing the register and patching up, I have a completely black painted room including the ceilings, which was a pain to get right as the flat paint was notorious at showing all inconsistencies. It's likely that a touch up paint job would mean a repaint of the whole ceiling just to get the finish looking seamless. Not willing to do that again... I think I might lean towards...

    I would like to get some advice on my options for installing a split system aircon in a room that already has existing evap cooling. I have recently converted a room into an enclosed theatre room, and wish to keep the cooling independent from the rest of the house. The house has evap cooling and ducted heating throughout. Having windows and doors open in the theatre rooms defeats the purpose of dark and soundproof room, so evap cooling is not a good option. What I am thinking of ...
