    No. Completely open. Theres a large C section running along the top of the doorway. We will just reuse that. It had bolts securing the wall to the C Section all along. New section above the door way will be double brick onT shaped lintel. Steve

    Thanks again. My bricklayer is not keen and I would have to hire the Strongboys and I think it would be fiddly to get the Lintel in position ( I would have to hire the Stronboys for 2 or 3 weeks due to logistics.) We are going to play it safe and remove all the bricks and , redo the returns fit the new Lintel and relay the bricks. The Lintel Supplier says he can lift into position when we say to deliver, so that saves alot of hasle. Litnel is about 200kg. 6.5m span. We will leave the...

    Thanks Droog. Just what I needed to know. I suspect it will be difficult to prop the lintels whilst trying to remove tham and fit a bigger one, so I will just remove all the bricks above the doors. I assume doing this would be acceptable until we can get the Lintels out? This still supports the roof as well as the centre column. This should give me enough bricks to have cleaned before the Brickie arrives on sight.

    Hi Guys, I wonder if you can give me some guidance as a safe , minimum effort , way to remove the brickwork on my garage, in order to convert to a single large door. I want to remove all necessary bricks, including the centre colum,remove the Lintel, lay new 'returns' ( I think thats what they are called ) on each side, install a new stronger T Lintel and repalce the bricks. ( I have a bricklayer laying the bricks for me , but he is not here to guide me yet. ) I want to do as much as I can...
